Pleasing the destitute

This day of 28th October, 2016 was the day dedicated to the orphans, sharing with them some moments to bring smiles to the dried lips and revive gleams to the vacant eyes which are ever on the look out for love around them. It was an effort of the NSS team under the blessing of Shri Hari Om Tayal, Chairman of Panipat Institute of Engineering and Technology, Samalkha.

The nurturing of traits as upright citizens of the country makes them compassionate towards the needy. That is how a student team led by organisers by the names Rahul Gulati and Rajan Arora under the leadership of Profs. Hawa Singh and Bhupinder Parmar started a drive to entice students and teachers to contribute money, food, garments and blankets etc. for the orphans. The drive was a great success as a result of which about 90 inmates of orphan houses at Kishanpura and Jathal Road, Panipat were showered with blessings of Shri Hari Om Tayal sir, who dispersed the gifts to at least 35 girls and 55 boys with his own hands. The smile brought to the sad faces made all at PIET happy beyond imagination.

Prof. K K Paliwal, Director PIET appreciated the efforts put in by Professor Hawa Singh and his team and said that all such good deeds go a long way to shine the name of the college which is already known for an able faculty team and upgrading process of students, which is strengthened by the International Internships in countries like the USA, the UK, Germany, Sweden, Holland, Singapore, Cambodia, and Czeck Republic etc as well as frequent National and International seminars, conferences. He added that such drives as a help to social cause is another direction from our “Earn While You Learn Program” to groom the youth in all aspects. Shri Rakesh Tayal, Member BOG in his message blessed the student organisers for the efforts they put in to generate and materialise this idea which is unique in the history of PIET. He added that he would like if such social drives are a continued for times to come.

The institute is not only well known for academics but also for extracurricular activities and awareness drives in line with government projects and policies, because it is a process to produce upright citizens for the nation. In the same series of activities the last week of July was slated for a week long NSS camp from 25th July to 31st July.

The camp was declared open by Shri Rakesh Tayal, memebr BOG and Prof. Dr. K K Paliwal, Director PIET, who, in the capacity of Chief Guest and highly appreciated the efforts put in by the faculty and student teams to make it a ‘well start’ of the week. He said that while it is the maiden song of the institute, he is happy that the events have been well planned and organized.

The issues touched upon were all of social and global importance. Save earth and water were the global environmental burning issues and forestation drive was carried out by the participants in village Patti Kalyana. A total 50 saplings were planted and the responsibility for their care has been owned by volunteers from the village. One of the main social issues touched upon was ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, the Prime ministerial drive over India in general and Haryana in particular. The message was conveyed through meaningful skits which were heart rending and eye opening.

The campers were also apprised about the traffic rules and other related areas by by Shri Atma Ram Lamba, DSP Panipat who advised the youngsters to abide by the rules and not to drive a vehicle without a valid driving license. He showed his concern over the rising instances of road accidents despite the fact that the roads in the country were all under improvement.

A day was slated for a free dental and eye medical check up drive by Drs. Nitika and R K Tandon respectively. The visiting specialist counseled the youth to be careful about their food habits and in the use of gadgets, which they said were both responsible for an early ill health of these two very vital body parts. In between the days meditation, personality development and mock interview sessions were also conducted by the PIET faculty team which the campers enjoyed and gained together.

The closing day was very important for all the participants with the presence of Shri Ashish Arora,’ Group A’ Officer, Ministry of Labour & Employment, New Delhi, who advised the students to be very focused on their goals of life and should not shudder on others’ comments on their career choice and future. He said that he was greatly impressed to visit PIET and defined it as an institute with world class infrastructure and methodology. He said, “Meeting the PIET management has been a matter of great pleasure who are alive to the national issues to this extent. If all educational houses adopt this approach, there is no doubt that the country would progress faster than envisaged”. Shri Rakesh Tayal, Member BOG PIET presented the vote of thanks to the elite visitors and congratulated the faculty and student teams of Ujjawal 2K16 for the whole hearted efforts put in to make this event a big success bringing home the point that all social and global issues are the responsibility of all Indians by default and this camp is a small step taken in this direction.
