The faculty development programme started on 25th June 2020 at 10:00 am. There were 82 external participants from different Institutes/Universities and around 18 participants from Panipat Institute of Engineering and Technology, Samalkha, Haryana.

Opening remarks for the FDP were given by Dr.Vishal Dabra (Associate Professor), which was followed by an introduction to the programme by Mr. Gyander (Assistant Professor). He briefed the participants about the subjects chosen for the FDP and highlighted the reasons and importance of the same. Thereafter, the message from Honorable Director was read out by Dr. Sunil Dhull (Associate Professor and Head). He also showed a glimpse of the activities going-on in Department of Mechanical Engineering, P.I.E.T.

Date wise brief report for each of the one week FDP programme is given below with the feedback at the end:

Day 1: (25th June 2020)

After the Inaugural function, the programme progressed with the lecture at 10:30 am by Dr. Sandeep Singhal, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering of National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra in which he focused on the Smart Materials research going on in recent trends. He mainly talked about the research in the area of Smart Materials which was followed by a brain storming session

After the break in second session of first day, Mr. Gyander mainly talked about his research in the area of Advanced Structural Materials and also highlights of the accelerator based research and its significance over conventional techniques. Discussions with the speakers continued after the presentation. This marked the end on first day programme.

Day 2: ( 26th June 2020)

Second day first session was addressed by Dr. Amit Goyal, SRM University. He shared his views on polymers and ceramics. He also highlighted the recent advances in polymers and ceramics during industry 4.0.

The post lunch session, Participants were fortunate to listen to Dr. B N Chaudasama, Thapar University, Patiala. He discussed on Nano-materials. He also discussed the recent advances in Nano-materials for various processes.

Day 3: ( 27th June 2020)

Third day forenoon session was addressed by Dr. Ankit Saxena, MITS, Madanapalle, (Assistant Professor). His point of talk was Bio-materials. In this session participants got the knowledge about recent bio-materials exists and their applications.

In the post lunch session Dr. Sunil Dhull, Associate Professor and Head, Mechanical engineering department, PIET spoke on composite materials. In this session participants realized the significance of composite materials and their applications.

Day 4: ( 29th June 2020)

On fourth day 1st session Dr. Vishal Dabra spoke on Thermal materials. He inspired the participants to work on real time thermal materials by using Renewable Technology and also gave some guidelines for this.

In post lunch session Mr. Sidharth Gandhi spoke on Shape memory alloys. In this session participants were learned the application of shape memory alloys and cost of alloys.

Day 5: (30th June 2020)

On last day morning session, Dr. Vishal Dabra spoke on solar materials. In this session, he briefly discussed about advances in solar materials and their utilization. He also advised to use solar energy because of its benefits of everywhere availability, renewable, green energy.

A concluding session was organized on final day of FDP in which participants shared their experiences. Most of them talked about their enriching experience at the FDP. Thereafter Mr. Gyander, gave his concluding remarks to the participants. In the end Dr. Vishal Dabra gave the vote of thanks and concluded the one week online faculty development programme.

The following feedback was received from the participants:

  1. 86% of the participants felt that the delivery and presentation of the resource person was good. 2. 90% of the participants were of the opinion that the FDP brought technical knowledge of the subject in them.
  2. 90% of the participants felt that the FDP was coordinated very well.
  3. Participants felt that such FDP should be arranged regularly.

Outcome:

All the sessions were very much informative. The discussed areas are of great benefit for the participants as the topics match with the academic curriculum. Participants were enlightened with the most widely used advance functional materials. This in turn will help in research activity and placement opportunity.
